Privacy Policy

Surfboard is a Chrome extension that helps you capture notes while browsing — text, page elements, screen crops, sticky notes, and research documents (Big Notes).

We designed Surfboard so your data stays on your laptop. You do not need an account or signup to use the core product.

Surfboard stores your captures locally using Chrome’s extension storage on your device. This may include web notes, Big Notes, sticky notes, cropped or snapped images you save, domain-related memory, and basic UI preferences (such as theme).

This data sits in your browser profile on your machine. It is not uploaded to Surfboard servers, because Surfboard does not operate a backend that collects your notes.

We do not require signup to capture notes.

We do not sell your data.

We do not use your notes for advertising.

We do not run analytics or tracking SDKs that profile your browsing for ads.

We do not execute remote code from third-party servers to power the extension UI.

To let you capture from any site, Surfboard runs on pages you visit (with your permission via the Chrome install). It can read content you choose to capture — for example selected text, an element you snap, or a region you crop — and may take a screenshot of the visible tab when needed for those capture tools.

On-page UI (such as the popup, stickies, and pickers) is isolated so site styles and scripts do not mix with Surfboard’s interface.

When you save an image or crop into a note, Surfboard may fetch that media so it can be stored with your local note. For some sites, the extension adjusts request headers only as needed so blocked or hotlink-protected media can be saved into your notes. This is for capture fidelity — not for tracking you across the web.

You may export or back up notes (for example documents or import/export of local data) from within the extension. Those files are created at your request and saved or shared only by you.

Surfboard requests Chrome permissions solely to provide capture and note features: interacting with the active tab, injecting its capture UI, context-menu capture, local storage, the side panel dashboard, tab messaging and screenshots, and host access so capture works across websites you browse.

Permissions are not used to sell data or build advertising profiles.

You can delete notes and stickies inside Surfboard, clear local extension data, or uninstall the extension at any time. Uninstalling removes Surfboard’s local storage for that Chrome profile.

The Surfboard marketing website is informational. It does not require an account. If you email us for support, we use your message only to respond to your request.
